All Ireland Championship Qualifiers
Tipperary defeated Galway by 3-25 to 4-13 in Round 1 of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Qualifiers last Saturday evening at Semple Stadium . A hat-trick of goals by Seamus Callanan helped to see off Galway’s challenge in front of a crowd of 18,467 in beautiful sunshine to put Tipperary through to the next Round. Tipp were down by six points, 4-12 to 1-15, with 20 minutes to go, but put in a tremendous performance to outscore Galway by 2-10 to 0-1 in the remaining 20 minutes and win by nine points. This was a fantastic performance by the team and in particular in the last 20 minutes when their backs were to the wall. Man of the Match Seamus Callanan finished the game with 3-8 to his name. Congratulations to the team on a mighty display and to the management for their great work and who must be very pleased with the way the team responded in the last 20 minutes after going six points down.
Tipperary defeated Longford by 2-17 to 0-6 in Round 2 of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Qualifiers. Michael Quinlivan and Peter Acheson scored the goals for the Premier County as they ran out convincing winners over Jack Sheedy’s Longford who shocked Derry in the last Round. This was a tremendous display from Tipp as they bounced back from last month’s crushing two-point loss to Cork in the Munster semi-final.The Premier County bossed the first half to take a commanding 1-8 to 0-3 advantage into the interval.Michael Quinlivan got the hosts off to a flying start with a first-minute goal and the match was done and dusted when Peter Acheson added their second goal nine minutes after the restart to make it 2-10 to 0-4. Congratulations to the team who put on a superb performance in front of the home supporters and to the management team who had every member of the team flying on the evening.
It was great to see the huge support for the Tipperary senior hurling and football teams last Saturday evening in Semple Stadium. On behalf of the County Board I would like to thank all of the supporters who attended the games and for giving such wonderful support to both the hurlers and footballers last Saturday evening. We appreciate and thank you for your support.
