Niall was born on December 16th 1992 and plays with the Kilruane MacDonaghs club. He was a member of the Tipperary Minor Hurling panel in 2010 and the Under 21 Hurling in 2012 and 2013 (as captain). Niall was also on the Tipperary Under 21 Football panel in 2012 and 2013 and won Munster and All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling medals in 2013.
Niall made his Allianz Hurling League debut versus Cork in the 2014 Quarter-Final scoring a goal. Niall made his Championship debut at corner-forward versus Limerick in 2014 scoring a point from play.
