We have added two business speakers Jim Sheehan of SURECOM and Denis Casey of Casey Business Consulting.

Jim will speak about his business story and how to enter  awards.

Denis outlines his speaking points as follows:

A different take on Brexit plus why people should love their numbers.

Firstly (at the risk of turning people off) Brexit. While I appreciate people are sick to the teeth of hearing about Brexit at this stage, my take on Brexit is slightly different. I believe the actions required when planning for Brexit, are actions all businesses should take anyway to make themselves stronger – even if Brexit wasn’t on the horizon. If Brexit happens, they’ll be ready. If Brexit doesn’t happen, they’ll see the difference on your bottom line.

Secondly, I work a lot with micro, small and medium businesses. It is surprising how many of them don’t know their margins by product, service or channel. Many business owners seem to have a phobia about the financial side of the business. Yes, they love that they do, but it is much easier to make a profit when you take time to understand the margins.

Feel free to pop in for what should be an interesting and hopefully interactive chat.

Congratulations to Metis Ireland!

The leading lights in Irish Business descended on Croke Park on 19th April for the 4thAnnual All-Ireland Business Summit where a 1,000 strong audience from all 32 counties saw Metis Ireland presented with an All-Star Award.

Speaking at the event, Kieran F. Ring, CEO Global Institute of Logistics, Deputy Chairperson Adjudication Panel said;

 “The decision to designate Metis Ireland with All-Star Wealth Management Boutique 2018-19 is based on the score achieved in four rounds of intense competition.

The application, supported by references, interviews and independent ratings from the ‘mystery shopper’ process left the adjudication panel in no doubt that Metis Ireland is richly deserving of this accreditation. We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to all concerned and we wish you every success for the future”

Dr. Briga Hynes, Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, Chairperson Adjudication Panel stated:

 “’Metis Ireland has demonstrated an ability to innovate and has impressive growth plans which no-doubt reflects the resilience and optimism that are the hallmarks of Irish entrepreneurs. Metis Ireland bring a real inspiration for what is possible in business in Ireland and provide important role models for the many aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small firms.”

Central Bank briefing – Central Credit Register

The Central Bank has announced the implementation of the Central Credit Register, a new secure system for collecting personal and credit information on loans of €500 or more. It has been established by the Central Bank of Ireland under the Credit Reporting Act 2013. The Central Credit Register is being implemented in two phases. In Phase One, lenders commenced the submission of information on consumer loans (credit cards, mortgages, overdrafts and personal loans) and this will continue to be made monthly.  This information has been incorporated into credit reports which are available on request at www.centralcreditregister.ie.

Phase Two focuses on the submission of information on business loans including for example, commercial mortgages, business overdrafts and credit cards, revolving facilities and letters of credit.

From 31 March 2019, business lenders will be obliged to seek a credit report when:

  • a borrower has made an application for a new loan for €2,000 or more;
  • a borrower has applied to have an existing loan restructured;
  • there are arrears on an existing loan or there has been a breach of the limit of a credit card or overdraft.
