Minor Hurling

[ads1]

Following a resounding victory in the west semi-final v Galtee/Golden we headed to Annacarty on Sunday 11th to face serial winners Clonoulty Rossmore. They seized the initiative and took a 2 point lead through points from Patrick Carey & Pat Deegan, Clonoulty took the lead again but a smart response from Aaron Ryan saw us level again at the end of the 1st quarter. We were then dealt a hammer blow as influential midfielder Tommy Lyons was forced off through injury. Shane Stapleton with a monster free from inside his own half kept us in touch but the tide was beginning to turn in Clonoultys favour and they hit 4 points in the lead up to half time to take a commanding lead  at the break on a scoreline of 0-10 to 0-05. We did have a numerical advantage as Clonoulty were reduced to 14 men on the stroke of half time for an off the ball pull.

Despite the red card Clonoulty surged clear after the resumption with 3 unanswered points. We eventually settled and scores from Patrick Carey and excellent efforts Brian Carey & Stevie Carr together with a free from distance from Stapleton again saw the deficit reduced to 3 points entering the final 10 minutes however our efforts in reducing the deficit and commitment to getting the winner meant we were exposed at the back and Clonoulty pounced for late scores to see off our gritty challenge and they emerged victorious on a scoreline of 0-18 to 0-11. Hard luck to the panel and management

The team lined out as follows: Shane Stapleton (0-02), Paul Ryan, Emmet Ryan, James Condon, Conor Phibbs, Mikie Feehan, Paul O’Heney, Patrick Deegan (0-01), Tommy Lyons, Aaron Ryan (0-01), Brian Carey (0-01), Mikie Hayes, Patrick Carey (0-05), Andrew Vance, Stevie Carr (0-01). Subs used: Sean McGrath, Christopher Egan, James Corby.
