Clonmel Commercial’s bid to reach All-Ireland Club Football Final

Clonmel Commercials are bidding to be the first Tipperary Club to reach the GAA Club Football All Ireland. The Premier club are confident heading into the clash against the star studded Ballyboden St. Enda’s club based outside Rathfarnham in South Dublin.

Speaking to Tipperary Times this morning, Tommy Morrissey of Clonmel Commercials stated that the team are “quietly confident” ahead of the game in Portlaoise.

“We have a full panel to pick from which is the important thing. The players have trained well over the past 6 to 8 weeks and the players are in really good form. We know we’re underdogs going into this and we feel that, but we’re quietly confident all the same. The key players are in good form which is important.

“It’s a huge chance for both teams. We don’t have experience at this level but neither would Boden, they have a few household names who would be able to carry the pressure. It’s all down to the day, the weather will play a factor. Some players won’t turn up, other players will surprise you. It’s an open game now, its anybody’s chance” concluded Morrissey.

In an interview this week with RTÉ, Michael Quinlivan acknowledged that Ballyboden St. Enda’s have survived a tough test to get out of Dublin. “The pedigree of any team coming out of Dublin… it’s a very tough championship to win. They won a Dublin championship the hard way and have come through a tough Leinster campaign so they’re there on merit. They’re a fantastic team with fantastic players but we’re confident of our chances and if we can put in a performance it will go a long way towards a victory hopefully”

The winners will play in the  All-Ireland club final against Crossmaglen or Castlebar Mitchels, and the Leinster kingpins, who feature Conal Keaney and Paul Durcan in their ranks, are firm favourites.
