Dundrum AC Notes – April 4th

KEVIN MOORE MUNSTER NOVICE CHAMPION
The Munster Senior, Novice and Masters Road Championship was held in Killnaboy, Co Clare on Sunday the 3rd of April. The conditions remained dry and warm for both the men’s and ladies races which were both held over 4 miles on what a challenging course with gradual inclines. We had 8 athletes make the trip and who ran fantastically and brought home a string of Munster Medals.

In the Ladies race we had only one athlete take part. Laura Armstrong ran a strong race finishing in a PB time of 27:22. She placed 20th in the Senior race and 22nd in the Novice. She was 5th Senior and 6th Novice home for the County missing out on the team of 4.

In the Men’s race Kevin Moore ran an absolutely blinder to become the Munster Novice Champion in a time of 21:04 holding off fellow County man Denis Shanahan.  Huge congratulations on this achievement! He also placed really well as 9th in the Senior race. Next home was Martin Keane in 22:35, 19th Novice, 29th Senior and 10th O/35; next we had Gareth McGlinchey making his debut in these Championships and making a PB time of 22:37, 20th Novice, 30th Senior, 11th O/35; Dermot Hayes in 23:03, 25th Novice, 36th Senior, 5th O/45; Donal Keane in 24:10, 38th Novice, 50th Senior, 7th O/40; Michael Moore in 25:16, 50th Novice, 62nd Senior, 8th O/50; PJ Holmes in 28:00, 70th Novice, 82nd Senior, 22nd O/35. For the record PJ is in fact in the O/55 and due to a technical error was entered into the O/35.

With these great performances many Munster Inter Club and County Medals were won. In the Novice Dundrum AC won Gold in the Munster Inter Club with Kevin, Martin, Gareth and Dermot on the team. They had the same points as Ennis Track AC, however our 4th athlete Dermot finished before theirs. Kevin, Martin and Gareth were also on the County Team of 6 who won Silver in the Munster Inter County. Martin, Gareth, Dermot and Donal also won Bronze in the O/35 Munster Inter Club. Martin, Gareth and Dermot were also on the County Team of 6 who won Silver in the O/35 Munster Inter County.
Well done to all a fantastic day of running for the club.
