Dundrum AC News Feb 1st

The County Road Relays was hosted by us, Dundrum AC in Clonoulty GAA pitch on Sunday the 31st January.  We would like to thank Clonoulty GAA for allowing us to use the facilities as it is a perfect location for spectators and competitors to watch how the race is panning out. The weather was extremely bad with gale force winds and rain from the get go. The relay was composed of 800m, 1,500m, 800m and 3,000m.

In the Ladies Race the girls took part in the Division 1, Section A with Jean Kelly 800m, Laura Armstrong 1,500m, Emily Leahy 800m and Linda Grogan 3,000m.

In the Men’s race we had two teams.

The Division 1, Section A team was made up of Gareth McGlinchey 800m, Michael J Ryan 1,500m, Willie O’Dwyer 800m and Kevin Moore 3,000m.

The Division 1, Section B team was made up of Gerry Hayes 800m, Dermot Hayes 1,500m, Paudie Coen 800m and Martin Keane 3,000m. It was lovely to see a father (Dermot) and son (Gerry) running on a team together.

All of our three teams won Silver in their division/section. It was some of the athletes debut in this Championship including that of our two Junior athletes Jean and Gerry. Fantastic running by all.

The next County Championship to be held is the Novice in Moyne on the 14th of February.

On Wednesday the 27th January we had 4 athletes run in the Barlo Motors Group Race 3 in Clonmel. Gareth McGlinchey had a fantastic race to finish 2nd in 15:09. Followed closely by Donal Keane in 5th in 15:16. Linda Grogan  had a great race finishing 20th in 16:38 and was 3rd Lady. Laura Armstrong was 62nd in 18:51.

Gareth, Linda, Laura and Dymphna Ryan, along with Anthony Landers from Clonmel AC are taking part in the Clonmel AC 500k Challenge as a team. Between the 5 of them they have to complete 500k over the Clonmel AC promoted races of 2016. Their team is called The West and South and have 34km done already.
