COUNTY INTERMEDIATE ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP
The County Intermediate Road Championships were held in Ballyneale on Sunday, 25 July. It was a hot day for racing during this current heatwave we are experiencing. We had 5 athletes compete, 3 in the Women’s 4k and 2 in the Men’s 8k.
Tish Ryan ran a superb race. She was in the leading pack of 3 athletes the whole way around. With about 150m to go she made her break and opened a decisive gap to finish in 15:41. Unfortunately due to confusion around the set up of the finish line she was awarded Silver instead of the Gold. She wasn’t told to continue going until it was too late and the second place athlete was on top of her and claimed the gold instead. The official results show 1st Patricia Ryan 15:41, 3 seconds clear of second place. After this happened the bollards were realigned and every other athlete told to run right through. Even though she missed out on the official Gold medal. Tish is a winner in our eyes and the club are proud of her outstanding performance. Next we had 5th Karen Coughlan 17:03 and 10th Laura McCarthy Armstrong 18:39. The girls combined to win Silver in the team event.
In the Men’s race we had 21st Michéal Coen 31:58 and 36th Ben English 37:18. Unfortunately we hadn’t enough to field a team of four.
MUNSTER U23 TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
