Coach of the Year Award
Great news, Club Coach Gerry Connaughton has been awarded the Irish Squash Coach of the Year award in recognition of his contribution to coaching squash in Ireland.
Gerry
Gerry has been coaching squash for countless years and has introduced thousands of people to this wonderful sport over the years. The club salutes Gerry for his enthusiasm and for fostering the development and growth of squash in Thurles and beyond. Thurles Squash Club is currently experiencing a renaissance and has grown it’s membership base considerably. The person at the centre of the club over the years is our very own, Mr Squash, Gerry Connaughton. Congratulations
Munster League
Our Division 2 Mens team were beaten 4-1 away to Celtic in Waterford last week in the Semi Final first leg. They are at home this week in the second leg. Scores – C Maher 1-3, T Maher 1-3, K McLoughney 3-0, D Butler 1-3 and D Broderick 2-3.
Our Division 4 Mens team were beaten 3-2 away to UCC last week. Scores – G Connaughton 1-3, A Cleere 3-1, R McLoughney 1-3, K Slattery 3-1 and D Corcoran 0-3

Ladies Squash Night
In the Club on this Wednesday night from 7pm there will be a launch of the Munster Ladies Ladder and prizes presented to the those involved in the Jan/Feb league. There will be ladies up from Highfield, Limerick and UCC. There will be games played and some food afterwards. All are welcome to attend.

Squash Blitz
Thurles Squash Club is running its next blitz on Friday 11th of March. Matches start at 7.30PM promptly. A great night guaranteed. Contact Gerry on 0872634313 to enter.

Thurles Squash Club to Hold 5K Challenge this Sunday

Thurles Squash club are renowned for their efforts on the court with some great recent successes. The club are now turning their hand to organising a 5K challenge this Sunday

Starting at Thurles Golf Course at 11am, the event promises to offer great fun and enjoyment with over €300 in prizes and with refreshments for all participants after the race.

Thurles Squash Notes April 5th

5K Run and Walk
On Sunday next at 11am Thurles Squash Club have organised a 5K Run and Walk. This follows on from the success of last years event. This is a chip timed AAI officially measured event and is open to all. Chip timing and registration commences at 10.30 and there are great prizes to be won. Entry is €10 and there will be family discounts. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
Interprovincials
Thurles Squash players representing Munster
Thurles Squash Club had 6 junior members on Munster duty recently at the Junior Interprovincials in Galway. Philip O Connell was on the boys u13 team which finished runners up with wins over Ulster and Connacht. The girls u13s were also runners up and we had 3 girls with Cate Maher, Sarah O Connell and Fiona Guidera. Claire Dempsey was the Thurles representative on the girls u17 and they also collected runners up trophies. Eoghan Cleary was on the u15 boys team and despite his best efforts the team was unsuccessful but gave a very good account of themselves.

Thurles Squash Club Notes – March 15th

Munster Champions
Congratulations to our victorious Munster League Division 2 winning team. They defeated Munster Select 3-2 last week in Cork to clinch the title. They beat Highfield, Sundays Well and Waterford Celtic along the way. Team was Ciaran Maher, Karl McLoughney, Darragh Butler, Kevin Moloney (Captain) and David Broderick.

Spin South West Sports Star of the Month
Club Member Ciaran Maher receiving the Spin FM Sports Star of the Month Award. Ciaran was part of our victorious Munster League Division 2 team last week and he also won last years Club Championship. Congratulations to him

Una Tierney

Thurles Squash Club is greatly saddened to learn that Una Tierney passed away recently. Una was a club stalwart for many years. She was an accomplished squash player and represented the Club with great distinction over the years. She played on club teams in the Kilkenny/ Tipperary League. In later years she was a valued Club Committee member. Una will be greatly missed, our sincere condolences to her family and friends. May she rest in peace
