Tipperary County Council launch Customer Service Desk

The Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, Michael Fitzgerald today launched the customer services desk of the new council.

Traditionally, telephone and personal callers were referred to the relevant council service by a receptionist. The customer services desk is a new approach for the unified council, in which experienced staff are available ‘front of office’ to assist customers on the telephone or in person. Speaking at the launch, the Cathaoirleach said: “While customers have always had priority in all of the Tipperary local authorities, this dedicated customer services desk is a new departure within the unified council and reflects our ongoing commitment to our customers across the county.”

The amalgamation process required a reorganisation of town and county council staff and structures while the simultaneous local government reforms saw a significant reduction in the number of elected councillors in County Tipperary. The Chief Executive, Joe MacGrath said “there was a concern that the changes could result in a gap in communication between the new council and our customers. I felt a robust customer care system should be put in place as part of the merger process.”

The new system is dedicated to the customer; all callers are directed to the customer team, who can supply general council-wide information on the spot. Where the query is more specific, they refer it to a specialist staff member or log it on a software system for scheduled action by relevant staff.

The many telephone numbers that were in place across the county before the merger have been replaced by a single number for Tipperary County Council.  The number 0761-06 5000 is part of the Irish Government network and is charged as a local call from anywhere in the country.

The Cathaoirleach also referred to the re-designed council website at www.tipperarycoco.ieand urged customers throughout the county to log on or to contact the new customer services team for all their council queries.
