“This is great news for farmers who need to maximise their cash flow and will be of particular benefit to beef farmers in this regard. Minster Coveney has shown his understanding of the difficulties faced by these farmers lately and has ensured the release of the Single Farm Payments on the earliest date possible under EU legislation.

“In total, the payments will amount to €480 million for 105,000 farmers across Ireland.

“Payments under the Disadvantaged Area Scheme (DAS) will also continue to issue. €165 million in DAS payments has now issued to nearly 80,000 farmers since the 24th of September. According to Minister Coveney, in the last month alone approximately €650 million will have been issued to Irish farmers between the DAS payments and this advance on the Single Farm Payment Scheme.

“This has been a good week for Irish farmers who saw the first Budget increase for Agriculture since 2009 with an allocation of €1.251 billion for Irish agriculture in 2015. This represents an increase of €32 million on the 2014 Budget and is a very welcome development for Irish farmers,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
