Willie Kennedy Flags Concerns with Regards to Deplorable Condition of Roads in Fantane/Ileigh May 12th, 2014

Willie Kennedy_draft_21-1-14Following the completion of his canvass in most of his area Willie Kennedy told a meeting of his workers this week that while there are roads in a poor condition in every area, they are particularly bad in Fantane-Ileigh-Pallas areas and also in the Rossmore area. He told the meeting that the very busy road from Borrisoleigh to Fantane school, and the roads leading there from Currabaha cross and also to Glenbreda have been in a very poor state of repair for a considerable time now.

Mr. Kennedy stated;

“The road leading from Borrisoleigh to Pallas Cross to Rusheen and Greenane has been very neglected in recent years as well as the roads around Ileigh. Not having a local Councillor in this area to represent them at Council level has been the reason for this disgraceful situation. Some of the roads in the Rossmore area particularly the roads at Turraheen, Cloneyross and Foileen are in a very bad condition are not included in this year’s roads programme.”

“If elected on May 23rd, I will do my best to have these roads and other roads that are in a poor condition included in the next 3 year road programme when it is proposed. While I was a member of the Council I always found hard to maximise the funds for road maintenance and road improvements in his area. Almost all of the cul-de-sacs in my area had seen the roads leading to their dwellings included for surface dressing and drainage works over the years I was on the Council and if re-elected I will again try to prioritise funds for these important roads.”

Willie pointed out that since first elected to the council he was always available to give advice when necessary and help individuals and families with their problems and queries in relation to planning issues, education grants, farm subsidies and associated paperwork, and all other issues that concern rural families. He said that he also ensured that local voluntary organisations received maximum assistance in relation to the vital work they carry out in improving our villages, graveyards etc.

Willie Kennedy said that as the local candidate in this rural area he wants to ensure that our rural communities and families have a strong voice on the new local authority.

“With the combination of the larger area less Councillors it will be very difficult to have a Councillor elected in this area. To keep a Councillor in this area working for you, it is vital that I receive as many number 1’s as possible and where this is not possible, the highest possible preference.”
