“This is a major victory for families under threat of eviction,” McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has welcomed the decision by Ganley Walters, a significant auctioneer and property management company to enter into a written agreement not to facilitate the sale of properties which are the subjects of legal disputes. Deputy McGrath was speaking after he negotiated the agreement along with Mr Jerry Beades of the new Land League organisation and which will now mean that the Land League have agreed not to protest or blockade future auctions by Ganley Walters in the future:

“I am delighted that I have been able to mediate this amicable and sensible resolution with Mr Robert Ganley who was there in person on behalf of Ganley Walters and with Mr Jerry Beades of the new Land League.

The matter of major auction houses, like those represented by Mr Ganley, facilitating the distressing sale of residential or farm properties has been the source of huge public anger and resentment.

This agreement follows on from a similar successful compact with Alsop Space who has also acknowledged the hurt and anguish experienced by families forced to watch the sale of properties which are still in legal dispute.

As far as I am concerned this kind of engagement provides a model way forward.

At all the protests I have been present at and all the events in support of those threatened with eviction the one thing that comes up time and again is the families lack of a sense of being heard by either the lender/bank or the company facilitating the sale of the property which is often a family home or farm.

This agreement means that those threatened with eviction have been heard and that in itself is a major victory for these families; a victory I was only too happy to help bring about,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
