Noel Coonan TD Welcomes FRS Jobs for Roscrea

Tipperary Deputy Noel Coonan has welcomed the news that Farm Relief Services has been awarded a tender which will lead to the creation of 60 jobs plus in Roscrea. Deputy Coonan complimented the staff at FRS for vying for the JobPath Programme contract from the Department of Social Protection; and for their determination in locating the headquarters for this project in Roscrea.

“Thankfully FRS has been successful in the tender evaluation process. The efforts of Mr Peter Byrne CEO, FRS Network, and Mr Colin Donnery General Manager who spearheaded the project are to be commended; because their determination led to this positive development and job announcement. They submitted their tender which was comprehensive and professional and ensured FRS were successful in the evaluation process,” said Deputy Coonan.

“FRS will now need to source a suitable building as their headquarters in Roscrea for this project. An Post are currently negotiating with a local businessman regarding a vacant advanced building in Benamore for a Regional Sorting Centre to be located in Roscrea. One would hope we could combine these two endeavours in the one premises and I encourage all parties to explore possibilities to making it happen.

Deputy Coonan continued: “FRS has long provided valuable employment in Roscrea and their operational facility has grown from strength to strength. I have always been happy to work with FRS in any way possible and in particular to bring this project to fruition. I was aware of their submission over past months and did all I could to help their application.

“The job strategy driven by Fine Gael and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton is thankfully now showing signs and being felt in provisional towns such as Roscrea in the heart of rural Ireland. Prior to this, successes were based mainly in the larger cities. I will continue to promote Roscrea and Tipperary and lobby for additional jobs in the area. Hopefully, in the future, Government Ministers will be in a position to match the successful initiative shown by Farm Relief Services in attracting jobs to Roscrea.

Deputy Coonan further explained: “JobPath is the Government’s new labour market activation service aimed specifically at the long-term unemployed and those most at risk of becoming long-term unemployed.  JobPath will augment and complement the Department’s existing employment service capacity as well as that of the Local Employment Service (LES) and Job Clubs, which already operate under contract to the Department, thereby increasing capacity to provide supports to assist jobseekers in obtaining employment.”
