Senator Denis Landy believes Eamon Gilmore’s decision to step down has prevented an internal battle over his position.
Mr Gilmore announced his decision yesterday afternoon stating he took full responsibility for their disastrous performance in the elections and that the party will be better able to renew itself under a new figure.
Nominations for his replacement open today with a new leader due to be in place by the 4th of July.
Senator Denis Landy doesn’t fear that it will destabilise the coalition government – however he does feel that more change at the top is needed if Labour’s fortunes are to be reversed.
