DEPUTY MICHAEL LOWRY CALLS ON EDUCATION MINISTER JOE MCHUGH TO ENGAGE WITH SCHOOL SECRETARIES

This morning a number of School Secretaries across the County engaged in a one-hour work stoppage in protest over unjustified pay and work conditions. I fully support these School Secretaries in their call for the improvements they deserve.

School Secretaries are a vital part of our school system and they play a pivotal role in our school communities. School Secretaries are the first and most frequent point of contact between teachers, parents and pupils. They often provide reassurance during stressful periods of time for families and students.

It is time that these vital workers in our education system are properly valued and get the pay and conditions they deserve. I have called on Education Minister Joe McHugh to engage with school secretaries and their unions to resolve ongoing matters.
