It is with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of our former colleague and friend Councillor Jack Crowe.

Jack was a member of South Tipperary County Council for over 40 years, elected to the Cashel Electoral Area for the first time in 1974 and served until 2014.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Michael Murphy described Jack as a legendary figure of public life in South Tipperary – “For me, Jack was a giant of local and regional Government over 40 years. Incredibly well respected across the political divide, a man that had a real presence every time he entered a room, a man of great oratory skills, courageous, unbelievable work ethic, always a champion of the grassroots and of course his beloved Dundrum and surrounding areas. A man with a great sense of humour, he will be sadly missed”.

The much loved Dundrum man was a former chairman of South Tipperary County Council in 1984, Chairman of the Roads Transportation & Water Services Strategic Policy Committee in 2009 and the South East Regional Authority in 2013.

Jack was also a long serving member of South Eastern Health Board, General Council of County Councils, County Tipperary Joint Libraries Committee, Burial Grounds Committee, Local Traveller Accommodation Consultative Committee, Galtee and Dundrum Regional Water Supply Committees, Suir Drainage Committee and the Rural Water Monitoring Committee.

Sympathies are extended to Jack’s wife Noirín, daughters Sinéad and Niamh and brothers Austin and Paddy on behalf of all in Tipperary County Council.
His remains will be reposing at Hayes’ Funeral Chapel Clonoulty this Tuesday (August 27th) from 4:30pm with removal at 8pm to the Church of the Assumption Knockavilla. Requiem Mass Wednesday at 11:30am, followed by burial in St Senan’s Cemetery, Knockavilla

A Special Meeting of Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District will be convened on Wednesday 28th August 2019 at 10am in Knockavilla Community Hall as a mark of respect.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
