Morris calls for funding for deplorable trolley conditions in LUH

Nenagh Councillor, Seamus Morris, has called on the government and the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, to provide immediate funding to help alleviate the deplorable conditions which people must endure in Limerick University Hospital.

Morris has long been an advocate for improving local health services and speaking about the conditions which he witnessed in Limerick University Hospital, Morris stated “Today’s figure of 47 people languishing on trolleys in the Limerick University Hospital has led to a call for emergency procedures to be implemented at the Hospital to alleviate the disgraceful trolley situation“.

Morris went on to speak of his frustration in communicating with the HSE and has tired of the false promises which have not come to fruition, stating “I have consistently refused to be charmed by the HSE spin which was swallowed by every North Tipperary TD, Maura Hoctor , Michael Lowry who started the ill fated reconfiguration, Alan Kelly (PRO of the Nenagh Hospital Action group now disbanded) and Noel Coonan who U-turned themselves into taking even more services for the hospital that they promised to defend“.

Cllr. Morris stated continuously that he only wished for services to be provided that would be fit for purpose for the people of the Mid West and County Tipperary. Morris claimed that if current conditions are not improved, that patient safety will suffer. Speaking of his disappointment of fellow politicians and their support for the matter, Morris went on to say; “These politicians have inflicted incredible pain and anguish on the people of the Mid West by squeezing them into an Accident and Emergency unit that is not fit for purpose and is an accident waiting to happen. Today’s figures of 47 seven people lying on trolleys without dignity  and waiting to be diagnosed in an incredibly dangerous work environment shows that the TD’s of North Tipperary have failed the people who voted them in and should apologise for their betrayal

When pushed for a solution to the current situation, Morris had a clear vision for the future “The HSE should immediately open up more beds and also extend the opening hours of the small injuries units in Nenagh and Ennis and explore the possibility of opening another Grade 3 Hospital in the Mid West region and Limerick just is not large enough”.

While Cllr. Seamus Morris raises concerning figures regarding the number of people waiting on hospital trolleys in Limerick University Hospital, these figures must be put into the context that we are not yet into the busiest part of the year for Accident and Emergency wards of hospitals. These figures come in mild weather and will undoubtedly worsen as the weather gets colder. Morris closed by demanding that politicians hear his call for better conditions in local hospitals as his concern for patient safety grows “It is now time for emergency action before there is a terrible tragedy in Limerick University Hospital . It is time for the HSE and the Politicians of the Mid West to get down form their Ivory towers where they depend on spin doctors to tell us untruths while the people that they are paid to defend suffer the consequences
