930 patients waiting on trolleys this year in hospitals serving Tipperary

Figures released by the INMO show that both University Hospital Limerick and South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel top the lists for being the worst two hospitals nationwide for the number of patients waiting on trolleys.

Since the turn of the year, 494 patients waited on trolleys and for places in a ward in University Hospital Limerick while 436 patients waited on trolleys and for places on wards in South Tipp General Hospital in Clonmel.

The Clonmel hospital was saw a dramatic increase in the numbers waiting on Trolleys last year. According to local Councillor Catherine Carey “This is a shocking statistic. South Tipp General has been under continued stain since the closure of St. Michaels. We have seen a dramatic increase in the numbers of people waiting on trolleys. This isn’t good enough and the people of Clonmel and now left with a sub standard service”

Prior to 2011, statistics show that the most people who waited on a trolley in a given year was consistently less than 1,000 however last year saw that number spike to over 5,000 people who waited on a trolley in South Tipp General Hospital.
