Kilruane MacDonaghs Notes – March 28th

Senior

MacDonaghs will take on Clonoulty-Rossmore in the first round of the county championship in Dolla on Sunday, 10th April at 6.30pm.

Junior

In the first round of the league MacDonaghs travelled to Borrisoleigh and came away with a hard-earned 2-7 to 0-7 victory. The game was played in horrendous weather and the heavy pitch made it difficult for both sides. With treacherous underfoot conditions, scoring was very difficult and defences were on top. MacDonaghs had the aid of the wind in the first half and, helped by a Pat Conway goal just before the interval, they retired for the half-time break with a four-point advantage. Two minutes into the second half Pat Conway took a pass from Mark O’Meara and raised his second green flag. This gave the Magpies a seven-point cushion. The home side couldn’t close the gap in the closing quarter and MacDonaghs bagged a brace of valuable points. Team: Niall Shinners, Bob Dooley, Brendan McAdams, Colm Williams (Capt),  Stephen Cleary, Tomás Hogan, Conor Austin,  Alan Darcy, Liam Gibson,

Mark O’Meara (0-2), Robert Austin, Pat  Conway (2-1),  Finnian Mannion,Conor Cleary and James Cleary (0-4). Subs: Jonathan Cahill, Caoilainn Conroy, James Keogh, Cormac Williams and Pat Williams. The second round will be at home to Knockshegowna.

Garda Cup

Sean McAdams and Devlin Courtney were on the North Tipperary U16 hurling panel that participated in the Garda Cup.

Under 12

In the second round of the football championship both MacDonaghs teams made the short journey to Moneygall but the home sides shaded the verdicts. The ‘A’ team: Zack Dervan, Eamonn Coonan, Sean Hayes, Thomas Coonan, Tom Austin, Danny Cahalan, Jack Mulcahy, Jack Ryan, Tom Larke, Oisín Williams and Eoin Carroll. Subs: Jack Gleeson and John Quinlisk. The ‘B’ team lined out as follows: Cian Moyles, Gráinne O’Meara, Lynn Farrell, Kate Ryan, Tom Austin, Danny Cahalan, Brian O’Meara, John Hannan, David Persse, Darragh Spillane, John Quinlisk and Eoin O’Neill.

1916 Centenary

Despite the unfavourable weather, last Sunday’s Centenary Celebrations were an unqualified success. Congratulations to the 1916 Committee on the excellent arrangements. Thanks to all club members who helped out. Attention now focuses on the major parade and unveiling of the Thomas MacDonagh statute on Monday, 2nd May. There was a tremendous splash colour in the parish for last weekend. Supporters are asked to leave the flags flying until after the Fleadh Cheoil on the weekend of 8th May.

Strictly Come Dancing

On this Friday night the parish will witness a mass exodus of inhabitants as young and old head to the Abbey Court Hotel for the Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser which is a joint venture between the juvenile and camogie clubs. The dancers have put in a huge effort in preparing for the occasion. Johnny Looby of Tipp FM and Muirne Hurley, former Rose of Tralee, will be among the esteemed judges. MC Seamus Costello will get proceedings under way at 8.00pm.

Membership

The deadline of 31st March is upon us. Players and supporters are asked to renew immediately. Fees for 2016: adult players €50; non playing adults €30; juveniles and minors €30. Special €200 packages are also available.

Club History

The updated club history, “Kilruane MacDonaghs 1970-2013, Heirs to a Proud Tradition,” will be published on 14th October. For as little as €50 you can be part of that history by becoming a patron. Thanks to all who have subscribed to date. All patrons will be acknowledged in the publication. Contact Gilbert Williams 087-2176452 to ensure that your name is included.  We are looking for a minimum of 100 patrons to get this project off the ground. We are hoping that you will be one of that 100. In fifty years time the patrons will be honoured and spoken about.

Cúl Camp

The annual Cúl Camp will be held in MacDonagh Park, 4th-8th July. Last year 135 participants enjoyed a fun-filled week at the camp. Don’t miss out this year. Application forms will be available in the near future.

Clothes Collection

The MacDonaghs juvenile and camogie clubs are organising their annual Clothes Collection between Monday, 16th May and Saturday, 21st May. We had a tremendous response in previous years and we anticipate that supporters will rally to the cause once more.

Handball

The juvenile 40×20 development championships were played on Saturday in Broadford,  Limerick. Tipperary were represented in boys U12 doubles by Eoin Carroll and Jack Mulcahy. Played on a round robin basis, Eoin and Jack narrowly lost to Cork but went on to beat Limerick and, with the highest aces scored on the day, secured their first provincial title. Comhghairdeas leo.

Sympathy

The club extends sympathy to the family of the late Billy Grace, Middlewalk. Billy served as a mentor with juvenile, minor, U21 and junior teams. His coffin was draped in the MacDonaghs colours and club members formed a guard of honour at his funeral. Sympathy is also extended to the Kennedy family, Kyle on the death of Liam Kennedy.
