Conmen stole a sum of money from an elderly man in Cahir while posing as Gardai checking counterfeit notes.
The man was in bed when the two men called to his home in Derrygrath Cahir on the night of Monday 3 August. On being told they were checking banknotes in the area he showed them money which they then stole from him.
Gardai caution the public not to engage with any such callers and to close the door and report it to the Gardai. The Garda spokesperson also clarified Gardai do not call to homes checking banknotes.
