Remedying our national problems must be the overriding concern – McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has restated his belief that addressing the ongoing crises in health, housing and mortgage arrears must trump any other political or party priority in terms of the formation of the next government. Deputy McGrath was speaking after he confirmed that he along with four other Independent TD’s are set to meet with care taker Taoiseach Enda Kenny at 10.30am tomorrow morning in an attempt to escalate the move toward forming a viable and stable government:

“The longer things go on in this state of political paralysis the worse it will be for the thousands of families forced to endure yet another week without any kind of effective government.

Matters are simply too pressing and too urgent for this absurd state of affairs to continue.

We must all seek to give meaningful effect to the mandate we have achieved; which is primarily about addressing the deep and profound problems that are still afflicting our society.

Regardless of party loyalty or political affiliation the well-being of the State and its people must be given priority. That much is abundantly clear.

To that end I and four of my colleagues will meet as a group to see what contribution we can make to addressing head on the crises that exist in our hospitals, in our housing situation and in the deepening nightmare of home repossessions as well as the decimation of communities in rural Ireland,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
