Over the past number of weeks Thurles library hosted 3 events in association with Healthy Ireland at your Library. Colaiste Mhuire Co-Ed came to the library to take part in our Growing Healthy Eaters talk by Colette Reynolds Child Healthy Eating Specialist. Colette provided different ideas for school lunches and how to prepare a quick snack between school, sports sessions and other after school activities. She also spoke to the students about healthy breakfast options and the importance of a balanced diet. Colette brought a few tasters of the items she spoke on for the students to try and give their feedback on. Dark chocolate was not a favourite, while Emily Fruit Crisps was definitely a winner from all!
Máire Ryan Shanahan of Tipperary Mindfulness hosted a mindfulness workshop for children. This workshop was one hour duration incorporating the 5 senses, taste, sight, sound. touch and smell. Mindfulness builds resilience by giving children skills to help them to cope better with stress, as well as focus and build confidence in their everyday lives.
Finally we had a very energetic end to our events last Saturday when Hannah Hogan made dance moves fly in the library with her hour long Zumba class for kids! Hannah taught the children Zumba moves to popular music! The children loved the high energy moves as they were put through their paces some as young as 3 took part! Lots of tired young people emerged from the Gallery on Saturday evening but the feedback was amazing! Thanks so much to Hannah for putting together a class where all ages could get involved.
Thanks to all who hosted workshops in the library Colette Reynolds, Máire Ryan Shanahan & Hannah Hogan. Special thanks to the teachers, students, parents and children who attended the events.
