Leo Varadkar has said he does not want to see all restrictions lifted together

Leo Varadkar told his parlimentary party yesterday that a deadline of March 31st should be the date for the removal of most of the restrictions.

Businesses across Ireland have called for restrictions to be lifted across sectors as early as this weekend as it is believes that the Omicron variant has already reached its peak and hospital figures are currently reducing and ICU is not under pressure at this time.

NEPHET is due to meet today to discuss the easing of restrictions and the government will discuss these recommendations in cabinet tomorrow.

March 31st is the date that current legal restrictions are due to run out and would the emergency Covid legislation would need to be renewed on this date. Varadkar said that he would not like to renew this legislation and that if it can be done before this date then he would also be happy with that.
