Kilruane MacDonaghs GAA Notes June-10-2019

Inter County

Best of luck to Niall O’Meara, Jerome Cahill, Cian Darcy, Eamon O’Shea and the Tipperary team against Laois on Sunday.

Junior

In the fourth round MacDonaghs came out the wrong side of a 0-18 to 0-17 scoreline against Burgess in MacDonagh Park. The visitors seized the initiative early on and went into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead. At the interval the deficit was reduced to two points. Five minutes into the second half the teams were tied on 0-13 each but with eight minutes left Burgess had surged four points ahead. MacDonaghs rallied and cut the gap to the minimum but spurned a number of opportunities to get the equaliser.

Team: Conor Doheny (0-1 free), Kevin Oakley, Gavin McAvinchey, Shane Williams, Alan Darcy, Kevin Ryan, Declan Barrett, Martin Grace, Willie Cleary (0-4, 0-2 from frees), Jonathan Cahill (0-2), Mark O’Meara (0-1), Pat Williams (0-3), James Williams, Niall Shinners (0-2, 0-1 from free) and Bob Dooley (0-2). Subs: Paddy Ryan (0-1), Cormac Mannion (0-1), Luke Dervan and Louis Kennedy.

This loss scuppers any hopes of qualification. We still have two games left. On this Friday, 12th July we play Toomevara at 7.45pm with the venue to be confirmed.

Under 16

MacDonaghs won the Seven-a-Side tournament in Portroe. In the opening round they had a 5-4 to 4-5 victory over Burgess. In the second round they lost out to Portroe by 2-5 to 2-3. A 4-1 to 1-5 victory over Templederry/Ballinahinch secured a spot in the final where they just edged out the home side on a 1-5 to 0-7 scoreline.

After the final Paudie Malone presented the cup to captain Kevin Naughnane. Thanks to Paudie and the Portroe club for organising a well-run tournament.

In their final group game MacDonaghs had a home victory over Shannon Rovers.

Cul Camp

Our annual Kellogg’s Cul Camp was blessed with glorious weather last week with 188 children in attendance in MacDonagh Park. The highlight of the week was the visit of Tipperary star Jason Forde on Tuesday. Jason was a very popular visitor and he patiently posed for innumerable photos and answered some very probing questions.

Supervisors Mairéad Teehan (Moneygall) and Cian Darcy (MacDonaghs) ensured that all the groups were actively engaged in a wide variety of activities. Coaches Oisín McMahon (Shannon Rovers), Sam Madden (Portroe), Jill  Ann Quirke (Toomevara), Gemma McCarthy (Toomevara), Amy Phelan (Roscrea), Conor Sheedy (Roscrea), Kian O’Kelly (MacDonaghs), Craig Morgan (MacDonaghs), Conor Hennessy (Nenagh), Celine Cleary (Lorrha), Seamus O’Meara (MacDonaghs) and Joe Fogarty (Moneygall) carried out their duties in a very competent manner. They were ably assisted by our club volunteers Anna Mulcahy, Abigail Quinlivan, Mickaela McGrath, Katie O’Meara, Fionnan Hurley and Eoin O’Meara.

We are grateful to the following parents who helped out with supervision: Helen O’Meara, Helen Kennedy, Marie Quinlisk, Stella Heffernan, Breda Whelan, Marie Foote, Mairéad McLoughney, Yvonne O’Looney, Pamela Gaynor and Áine Hodgins. Thanks to Nancy Feighery and Carmel Daly who looked after the catering and Bridget Delaney who took photographs. A special word of thanks to our club co-ordinator Michael O’Meara who kept everything running smoothly during the week.
