Weekly Club Notes – Sep 13th 2019

Our senior hurlers had a disappointing result in the final county group game suffering defeat to Loughmore-Castleiney. An even start had both teams level after 10 minutes but Loughmore had a purple patch over the next 15 minutes outscoring us 1-12 to 0-1. From then on it was an uphill battle to get back into the game and the final score was 3-25 to 0-18. We finish the group in 3rd place, not enough to advance but also safe from relegation playoffs. All now hinges on the mid championship and the clash with Thurles Sarsfields this Sunday in The Ragg at 1:30pm. Both sides know they must win the division to get back into the county series so it will be hell for leather. Hopefully a big local support is there to cheer on the lads.

SENIOR FOOTBALL
Our senior footballers made history on Wednesday as we qualified for our first ever county senior football quarter final. They entered the game against Eire Og Annacarty knowing that the winner would progress to the knockout stages while the loser would be involved in the relegation battle. The opening half was evenly shared however we couldn’t convert possession to scores and it was Eire Og who took a 2 point advantage into the interval. The 2nd half followed a similar vein with both teams defending well and limiting clear scoring opportunities for their opponents. Midway through the 2nd half it looked like the game was slipping away from us as Annacarty went 7 points to 4 ahead but points from Colm Stapleton and Paul Shanahan brought it back to a single point nearing full time. Great work by Keith Ryan down the wing and in front of the goal by Conor Fahey resulted in a penalty being awarded to us which Paul Shanahan cooly slotted home to give us a 2 point victory 1-6 to 0-7. We now wait to see who our opponents are in the quarter finals as we face one of the group winners.
