I am an author and my debut book is The Gluten Free Kid, it’s a children’s picture book which helps explain coeliac disease to children or to anyone who would like to understand it. it has been illustrated by a Louth man, Anthony Corrigan who operates under “Drawn By Design”. I was wondering would you be interested in featuring my book? My official launch is on Saturday September 14th in Eason Nenagh from 2-4pm. We will have a face painter and treats from Jenny’s Kitchen Nenagh.
My new book The Gluten Free Kid is a completely unique book here in Ireland as no other material exists, yet we are getting more and more diagnoses every year.
The background behind the book is that my husband and I are both Coeliacs, and trying to explain our condition to our three year old was proving difficult. So The Gluten Free Kid was born. Our daughter’s have a very high chance of developing the condition and having this material available is very important. I have many other books written but there is nothing like this currently on the market. I felt getting this one out there first was essential so I can try to help as many families as possible.
The book is out now nationwide, retailing at €7.99 in 30 locations and available from Amazon for world wide delivery. a later date is to be confirmed for the eBook.
Sarah Keogh nutritionist, who works with the coeliac society has read the book and as a result I’ve been asked to feature at The Gluten Free Living Show in Dublin on September 28th, to do a reading and a signing.
I’ve posted about my book on several coeliac sites and the response has been incredible. So many families are excited about getting this book for their kids. The first 350 books have been snapped up before it even went to print. The interest has even succeeded my expectations.
I’m so passionate about getting the book out there and helping to raise awareness, part of my marketing campaign is to do as many school readings as possible to encourage this. I want people to stop thinking it’s a fad diet and realise just how serious this condition can be, it only takes one crumb to cause internal damage. Currently no cue is available and no medication to ease the symptoms.
I would love if one of you could help me on my journey in spreading awareness and promoting my launch. Media support is essential for this. It’s a topic that badly needs to be discussed in Ireland.
Here is a little insight into my background, I am 29, a Tipperary author based in Nenagh. Married to a Ennis man Eoin O’Connor, I lived in Ennis for a few years with him, working in retail and hiding my hobbie of writing to the world, we relocated back to Nenagh in 2016 after the birth if our oldest daughter, in Nenagh we run a very successful business “Nenagh Guitar Lessons”. We have two young daughter’s together – Alannah (3) and Madison (1). They provide lots of inspiration for my work and are the reason behind “The Gluten Free Kid”
Our oldest daughter has recently been diagnosed as a coeliac via blood test and is now waiting for a stomach biopsy to confirm it. As both her parents are coeliac she has a 1 in 5 chance of developing the condition so it’s highly likely this diagnosis is correct and both are daughter’s will develop this condition.
I have been secretly writing short stories since i was a teenager but never had the confidence to pursue my dreams of being a children’s author. After many years i confessed my love of writing to my husband, and with his encouragement, I decided to go for it and publish my first book.
I have a background in business and beauty so this is completely new to me. I plan to release another book next year but right now my goal is to raise awareness about coeliac disease and get this book out there to as many people as possible.
I hope my story and my book will be of interest to you. I’ve attached the official press release and some pictures you might like to use along with my social media links.
