Independent TD Mattie McGrath has again called on the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, to immediately suspend works on the National Children’s Hospital following confirmation from Prof Chris Fitzpatrick that at least 200 babies will be at risk of death each year if a maternity hospital is not co-located with the National Children’s Hospital.

Deputy McGrath was speaking as Prof Fitzpatrick continues to give evidence on the matter to the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee:

“This is a significant and deeply disturbing development in this tragic saga. We now know at least 200 of the sickest and most vulnerable babies will be at risk because of the catastrophic failure in planning that has occurred at this site.

What will it take before the Minister and the National Paediatric Board finally wake up to the fact that we are witnessing the unfolding of a scandal of untold proportions erupting before our very eyes,” concluded Deputy McGrath
