LECTURE – GENDER AND DEMOCRACY: THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT (IRELAND) ACT, 1898

 

Tipperary County Council are delighted to host Dr Leeann Lane for a lecture organised around the commemoration of the 120th Anniversary of the First Local Elections in 1899, and our first lecture in the series being organised by Tipperary County Archives.

Dr. Lane teaches in the Department of History and Geography, DCU and her primary area of research is modern Irish history with a specialisation in nineteenth and twentieth-century gender and women’s history. This work has focused on female activists in the area of suffrage and women involved in the Irish revolutionary period and Dr Lane has published extensively in this area as well as the area of the Irish cultural revival. In 2012 Dr. Lane was appointed by the Taoiseach to the Expert Advisory Group on the Decade of Centenaries.

Dr. Lane’s lecture ‘Gender and Democracy: The Local Government (Ireland) Act, 1898’ will be held in Clonmel Library, on Wednesday 18th September at 7pm. All are welcome and admission is free.
