Fianna Fail councillor Seamus Hanafin is delighted to see his cousin Mary Hanafin back in politics, despite the pressure she received from Micheál Martin to withdraw from the local election campaign.

Seamus, who was reelected in Thurles recently, believes that Mary was right to stand up for herself and the support she received from the Tipperary community was huge.

“It was great to see her standing up for herself and not being pushed around. The support is huge for her here in Thurles and around the whole county”, he told Dave O’Grady.

michael smithSeamus also admitted to feeling disappointed and let down by councilor Michael Smith after Smith voted for himself, instead of the Fianna Fail nominee John Hogan to become chairman of his district in Tipperary.

“I felt very disappointed to be honest. Smith asked for the decision to be put to a vote, which we did and he didn’t get the nomination. When we met previously he told us his aims so I think it was a very short term action for someone who expressed a long term ambition”.

He also told Dave O’Grady that having been reelected, one of his first matters of business will be to deal with the state of the roads in the county.
