It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of former independent councillor, Martin Lonergan. While tuning in to Tipp Today with Fran Curry on Tipp FM, we were shocked to hear that Martin had passed.
Martin was elected in 2014, and became Mayor of Clonmel. He was a tireless community worker, and a devoutly religious man.
Cllr Andy Moloney paid his tributes this morning on Tipp FM stating the people of Goatenbridge had lost a tireless representative, even following losing his seat in the last local elections. Cllr Moloney went on to say how roads which were commissioned during the last council are still getting completed, and Martin was still taking pride in the work he had done was still making a positive impact on his community.
Other Cllrs also gave their sympathies including Cllr Murphy and Cllr Anglim. What is clear is Martin was a much loved, and respected individual who made time for everyone.
Here at Tipperary Times, we’d like to take this opportunity to pass our own condolences to Martin’s family, friends, and all those who knew him.
