Jackie Cahill TD has today stated that the inability of the state to provide alternate mechanisms for driving applicants to sit theory tests is unjust, and prohibitive to achieving the necessary independence, especially in rural Ireland.
Cahill went on to say “It is not good enough that, a year into the pandemic, theory tests cannot be done online, especially for car and tractor licences. Essential workers should be allowed to complete their 12 EDT lessons and be provided with a test date at the moment – they should not be left waiting and be expected to travel to and from work when they are such a core part of our battle against Covid without these lessons and tests”.
Talking about what next steps he was going to take regarding the matter, Cahill went on to say, “I am contacting the Minister for Transport on these two issues – young people in particular are affected by this and waiting lists are gone far too long. I will be working with government partners to address these issues as I know how important they are to young people all around the county”
