Ireland is the only member state of the EU that does not have to charge for domestic water.
That’s according to Tipperary Councillor Jim Ryan, who has been studying the EU’s Water Framework Directive.
Ryan, while speaking to Tipperary Times’ Dave O’Grady, believes that the Irish Government could in fact be breaking European law by implementing the new water charges policy.
Councillor Ryan is now demanding an explanation from the Government as to why they are not availing of the water charges exemption!
