Cllr David Dolan commends those working through Storm Frank

On the eve of 2016 and I’m conscious of what a terrible past few days people have had with the most recent storm and its aftermath across the country no more so than here in my own District of Thurles/Templemore and surrounding parishes where I’ve been in homes that have flooded ,trees and poles down ,roads closed ,streets closed ,businesses adversely affected and now this morning to visit Littleton graveyard and see the flood forming there again is all heartbreaking.

Everyone appreciates that this is exceptionally bad weather, and sadly maybe this is what we are going to witness more of in the future and there are definitely ways that will have to be seriously tackled in the new year to prevent or certainly ease what people have endured particularly in the last few days and I’ll be making my views made known on this at our next council meeting.

I also though want to compliment the emergency services who have been out on the ground helping people at all hours no more so than the outdoor staff of Tipperary county council some of which came in to work and answered distress calls from the public on there time off and I also want to compliment the great local community spirit that’s alive and well in Tipp and the neighbourliness and good nature of people which I am witnessing first hand everyday but it was very evident of late in this most recent crisis.

I know 2015 has also been a tough one for those who have lost loved ones but my wish for everyone for 2016 is a one of good health ,happiness ,joy and good fortune and that the good natured community spirit in Tipperary will live on for many a year to come, Happy New Year To one and all and stay safe.
