The barrister, Diarmuid Phelan told the High Court that if released on bail that he would return to face trial.

Mr Phelan is accused of murdering Keith Conlon on his farmland in Kiltalown Lane in Tallaght.

The 53 year old barrister who is also a law  lecturer at Trinity College Dublin said that he wanted to clear his name.

Ms Justice Deirdre Murphy refused his application for bail today on the basis that Mr Phelan has the means and incentive to leave Ireland.

The judge said that given the seriousness of the charge and due to the fact t the barrister has US citizenship that he should remain in custody until his trial.
