Ukrainian refugees to be housed in student accommodation around Ireland

Earlier today Simon Harris, Minister for Education said that student accommodation in Colleges and Universities across Ireland will be made available to Ukrainian refugees coming into Ireland in the coming weeks.

Mr Harris said, while speaking alongside Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe, that 1,000 student beds has been offered for refugees.

“We have been working with our colleges and we’re continuing to work with them to make sure that student accommodation, which will be vacant when colleges are closed, can be made available in the short-term for Ukrainian students,” he said, while helping to turn the sod at a new academic hub and library at the Grangegorman campus.

Mr Harris has also said that his family had been registered a room for a Ukrainian family who needs it

There has been almost 10,000 refugees have arrived in Ireland after the all visa requirements for the country have been waived.

The minister for Education is also seeking a meeting with EU Education Ministers to see if there is a possibility of an Erasmus scheme for Ukrainian students who may want to study in Ireland.
