PIG MARKET UPDATE 4th SEPTEMBER

PIG MARKET UPDATE 4th SEPTEMBER

Steady as she goes this week with no further official increases announced by any of the main pig processors. Farmers report prices in the general range of €1.80c/kg up to €1.82c/kg.

While that Irish pig price has increased to match the EU average, the pig exporting countries of Spain, Germany and Denmark are powering ahead on price and it is clear that the Irish price will have to follow. Looking at the markets, with Chinese demand in particular, buyer activity has increased significantly in the past two weeks.  Very high demand for product in China is being matched by high and rising prices. IFA Pigs Chairman Tom Hogan called on the processing sector to pass on improved returns as increased pig prices without delay in the coming weeks.
