Noel Coonan TD Welcomes Re-Opening of Clonmel District Probate Office

Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed confirmation from the Courts Service that the District Probate office in Clonmel is due to re-open in March.

Deputy Coonan has been in close contact with the CEO of the Courts Service Mr Brendan Ryan and the Justice Minister in relation to the probate office in Clonmel when he was contacted by local Tipperary practitioners.

“Mr Ryan has informed me that additional resources are being assigned to the Clonmel office and will be in place by the end of January. Training will be provided for the new staff to be appointed to the Probate Office during February and it is expected that the Probate Office will re-open in March.

“This is an issue I have been pursuing as I know it was putting huge pressure on Tipperary practitioners. The office in Clonmel allows for a close liaison between the probate officer and local practitioners and it is vital it re-opens.

“The Courts Service was acutely aware of the position in relation to the District Probate Registry in Clonmel and I want to commend CEO Mr Brendan Ryan for re-introducing the service and listening to my concerns,” continued Deputy Coonan.

“Following my representations, Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald requested the Courts Service to consider the points being made by Tipperary solicitors who had contacted me. I also arranged a meeting with Minister Fitzgerald and local practitioners.

“Solicitors in Tipperary had to file probate applications with the Probate Office in Dublin rather than with the local District Probate Registry which led to delays in processing applications,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
