We have added two business speakers Jim Sheehan of SURECOM and Denis Casey of Casey Business Consulting.

Jim will speak about his business story and how to enter  awards.

Denis outlines his speaking points as follows:

A different take on Brexit plus why people should love their numbers.

Firstly (at the risk of turning people off) Brexit. While I appreciate people are sick to the teeth of hearing about Brexit at this stage, my take on Brexit is slightly different. I believe the actions required when planning for Brexit, are actions all businesses should take anyway to make themselves stronger – even if Brexit wasn’t on the horizon. If Brexit happens, they’ll be ready. If Brexit doesn’t happen, they’ll see the difference on your bottom line.

Secondly, I work a lot with micro, small and medium businesses. It is surprising how many of them don’t know their margins by product, service or channel. Many business owners seem to have a phobia about the financial side of the business. Yes, they love that they do, but it is much easier to make a profit when you take time to understand the margins.

Feel free to pop in for what should be an interesting and hopefully interactive chat.

Following on from the fantastic success of the 2017 County Tipperary Business Awards, the preparation for the 2018 event will continue with a launch event at the Thurles Chamber Enterprise Centre, on Thursday the 31stMay at 6.30pm.

In conjunction with our main sponsor, ABP, our Innovation and Educationpartners, LIT, and our media partners, TippFM, County Tipperary Chamber of Commerce are delighted to continue our preparation for the 2018 Business Awards which will highlight and celebrate the great strengths and capabilities of business in the county. On his recent visit to LIT Questum Acceleration Centre in Clonmel, Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton T.D., commented that the County Tipperary Business Awards offer an opportunity to “recognize enterprise excellence, innovation capability and exporting capability, … all of which are key to our success as a country”. Reflecting the close collaboration of County Tipperary Chamber with LIT in the county, he offered that “it is really important that Chambers recognize that by joining with institutes of technology, you can create a new dynamic” for business.

The County Tipperary Business Awardsceremony will showcase the very best business talent throughout the county. The event is being hosted by County Tipperary Chamber of Commerce with the co-operation of chambers in Cahir, Thurles, Cashel, Nenagh and Tipperary Town as well as the Mid-Western Business Network. Businesses of all sizes and types, operating in all segments of Tipperary commercial life, will have an opportunity to tell their story and be recognized for their positive contribution to the growth of Tipperary as a successful hub for commerce.

County Tipperary Chamber President, T.J. Kinsella says “We were astounded at the level of the positive reaction to the inaugural County Tipperary Business Awards in 2017. The participation from businesses across the county was phenomenal, representing the range of skills and capabilities that exist in our region. The standard across all categories was extremely high and I think this was wonderfully represented by our shortlisted nominees and eventual award winners. Every single one of those is an outstanding ambassador for Tipperary business. We look forward to continued collaboration with partner organizations, our sponsors, and even more businesses across the county to make the 2018 edition even stronger than before.

Central Bank briefing – Central Credit Register

The Central Bank has announced the implementation of the Central Credit Register, a new secure system for collecting personal and credit information on loans of €500 or more. It has been established by the Central Bank of Ireland under the Credit Reporting Act 2013. The Central Credit Register is being implemented in two phases. In Phase One, lenders commenced the submission of information on consumer loans (credit cards, mortgages, overdrafts and personal loans) and this will continue to be made monthly.  This information has been incorporated into credit reports which are available on request at www.centralcreditregister.ie.

Phase Two focuses on the submission of information on business loans including for example, commercial mortgages, business overdrafts and credit cards, revolving facilities and letters of credit.

From 31 March 2019, business lenders will be obliged to seek a credit report when:

  • a borrower has made an application for a new loan for €2,000 or more;
  • a borrower has applied to have an existing loan restructured;
  • there are arrears on an existing loan or there has been a breach of the limit of a credit card or overdraft.
