Tipperary’s Fianna Fáil Cathaoirleach Critical of Parliamentary Party decision

Cllr Seamus Hanafin is widely regarded as one of the most hard working Councillors in Tipperary. Having represented the people of Tipperary since 2003, Hanafin in now Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council

Contacted by Tipperary Times today, Cllr Hanafin was extremely critical of the decision to reject Fine Gael’s offer of power sharing without at least discussing the issues which are most important to the people of Tipperary

“We are working on the ground every day, we can see the challenges people face every day. The people of Tipperary and Ireland are not concerned with the semantics behind the political bargaining. It’s time that both parliamentary parties put the people of Ireland first”

The politically savvy Hanafin knows first hand how well Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil can work in tandem. Tipperary’s Cathaoirleach went on to talk about council composition in Tipperary. “If the Fianna Fáil parlimentary party look at Tipperary and many other councils around Ireland, they will see Councillors from Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil working well together, representing their constituents to the best of our ability”

“Lets look at Ireland. We have a country facing a homeless crisis, people waiting on hospital trollies. Fianna Fáil should speak to Fine Gael to see if common goals could be found and how to pursue those goals for the betterment of Ireland. If those discussions proved productive, coalitions could be considered. If they fail to reach agreement, at least all options have been explored”

Hanafin to his credit speaks a lot of sense. “I believe that people want to see a stable government and they definitely don’t want another election. If agreement can be found on the major policy issues then I think it would be in the best interests of the country for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael to form a government”
