Cllr Bonfield pays tribute to Cllr Willie Kennedy

By Fiona Bonfield

Friends and colleagues,

It was with great sadness and disbelief when I heard early on Tuesday morning of the tragic death of councillor Willie Kennedy.

A very popular , highly respected and long serving councillor, I personally only got to know Willie in the last two years from serving on this council, but such was the man he was, the first time I met with Willie it was as if we had numerous conversations together.

A true gentleman , his passion and dedication to his role as a councillor cannot be questioned and such was his popularity with all other councillors and officials of this local authority.

What I admired and respected most in Willie was his simple and straightforward talking, his passion of his local rural community , and his genuine love of the county of Tipperary and our Irish culture and heritage.

Willie always has a kind word to say whenever we met, he always gave you the time of day, and always wished you well in everything you were trying to achieve.

A very hardworking and dedicated councillor , Willie got the job done without causing hassle and never wanted thanks.

He was just so happy that he was able to help others.

Willie will be a huge loss to us his colleagues on this council, and on behalf of the Labour Team in Tipperary I would like to extend our sincere sympathies to his wife Betty and all his family, to his many friends and neighbours who Willie held so dearly and to his political colleagues the Lowry Team.

Willie keep watching over us, let us know when you feel more needs to be done and I will be looking forward to our next political debate whenever our paths will cross again.

I gconai do chara, Fiona
