Inland Fisheries Ireland funding for Bank Restoration in Newcastle welcomed – Cllr Martin Lonergan

Local County Councillor, Martin Lonergan has welcomed the the allocation of €12,000 by Inland Fisheries Ireland to a River Bank restoration project on the tributary of the River Suir in Newcastle.

According to Councillor Lonergan the funding will go towards the restoration of a stone wall that is adjacent to the Burial Ground in Newcastle Village and which is currently in danger of been undermined and collapsing into the Glen and contaminating the eco system of the glen and indeed the River Suir along with seriously undermining the local burial ground.

Commenting on the announcement Cllr. Lonergan said, “Inland Fisheries Ireland collaborated with the County Council and local community organisations in the development of this project to proposal stage and will now continue to work closely with them through the implementation of the restoration. The funding was awarded by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs as part of the Government’s programme to support rural development.”
