Kelly’s glory hunt reflects his political panic – McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has called on the Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly to stop antagonising the local political and civic communities of County Tipperary. A sense of unrest and frustration has continued to grow recently in the face of what Deputy McGrath has called ‘the arrogant appropriation of political credit for projects which the Minister has had little or no involvement in bringing about’:
“I think we could all point to examples of a certain high handed attitude in political life, but Minister Kelly is really taking that to another level here in Tipperary.

In the last fortnight or so he has not even displayed the minimal kind of courtesy one would expect in terms of arriving into Clonmel and announcing funding for social housing without consultation with the Council or the Town Mayor.
The details of that funding are still practically non-existent.

Today he is in Carrick-on-Suir to effectively take credit for the sterling work put into the new Comeragh College site; work I might add which the late Cllr Denis Bourke gave 15 years of dedication too as Chairman of the VEC

It is certainly the case that Minister Kelly is acting like a political parasite on a body of local work for which he can claim no credit whatsoever.
His panicked flight around the County in an attempt to associate himself with every project is a sure indication of the fear that he is feeling about the upcoming political backlash for the Labour Party.

I hope that he will stop this kind of antagonising behaviour and develop a more responsible and honest approach to projects and developments that he has no claim to have brought about,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
