Pilgrimage to Rome
On Sunday April 8th,  a number of pilgrims from Clonmel were at the Mass celebrated by Pope Francis for Divine Mercy Sunday in St Peter’s in Rome. The Group was led by Fr Michael Toomey as Spiritual Director, who concelebrated the Mass with Pope Francis.
The Group later travelled  to the Irish College in Rome, and were given a tour by the Rector, Mgr Ciaran O’Carroll. He pointed out the monument acquired by Charles Bianconi, while in Clonmel, as a monument to Daniel O’Connell. This was followed by Evening Prayer in the College Chapel and Benediction for Divine Mercy Sunday, served by the diocesan seminarian in Rome, John McEneany who is in his 4th year studying for the priesthood for our diocese.
The group also travelled to Assisi to visit the shrines of St Francis, and see the famous “Porziuncola” housed within the Basilica of St Mary of the Angels. Also, a visit to the shrines of St. Claire and St Rita of Cascia as well as the church she was married in.
Next year, it is hoped to arrange a Pilgrimage to St Anthony in Padua, as well as a visit to Lake Garda. More details later in the year.
