The captain of Golden was Julio Gimenez Prieto, a Spanish wonder kid who scored five goals in his very first Gaelic Football match. It was a very exciting game with Burncourt making a strong comeback at the second half. The Golden team was: Jack O’Dwyer, Levi Loveridge, Luke Bennett, Mikey Bergin, Cian Ryan, Ben Currivan, Julio Gimenez Prieto (C), Subs: Eoghan Tegerdine, Éanna Ormond, Kyle Colville, Aoife White, Shauna Casey, Billy Loveridge, Jason Morey, Lee Hayes.
ST. COLMCILLE’S P.S. V TWO-MILE-BORRIS N.S.
We were ready, all set to go; footballs, water bottles, first aid and jerseys. It was finally here, our first schools football match of the year. We knew this would be a hard year for us to retain our title. When we got off the bus, it was lashing rain as we looked out at the Littleton pitch. It was going to be a hard day to play football, a day to battle. St. Colmcille’s were looking very impressive early on as John Campion and Conor Cadell got their names on the score sheet. The backline were rock solid winning their personal battles. It looked to be getting worse for Two Mile Borris as Brian Quinn kicked a lovely ball into Ciarán McCormack and he punched the ball into the back of the net. Two Mile Borris did not look like scoring but St. Colmcille’s did with two lovely kicked points by Jim-Bob Kennedy. James Corcoran followed up with a lovely goal. The half time whistle blew. The score was St. Colmcille’s 2-11 Two Mile Borris 0-00. St. Colmcille’s ran into the dressing room soaking wet as the managers changed some people around introducing six substitutes. Then out into the rain again and the referee threw the ball in for the start of the second half. Even though there was a very different team on the field it made no difference as St. Colmcille’s kept putting the ball between the posts. The points were followed by two great goals by Seán Collier and Eoin Quinn. St. Colmcille’s were now dominating as Two Mile Borris still had not scored anything. They came close once for a point but it hit the cross bar and came back out. The subs kept coming on and off for both teams and the changes that Two Mile Borris made must have worked because they scored two goals inside the next five minutes. It did not matter because St. Colmcille’s were too far ahead now and a few minutes after the two goals the ref blew the final whistle. The final score was St. Colmcille’s 4-14 Two Mile Borris 2 goals. Players shook hands and headed for the shelter of a dressing room. It was a great victory for St. Colmcille’s but they still have a lot of work to do yet to retain the county football title. The team was, in goals Shane Sweeney, the full back line was Kevin Sheedy, Stephen Cahill and Niall Moloney the half back line with Jack Nevin, Eoin Quinn and Patrick Moloney. Midfield was Conor Cadell and John Campion. The half forward line made up of James Kennedy, James Corcoran and Killian Fennell. A young but great full forward line, Luke Ormond, Ciaran McCormack and Brian Quinn. Subs were Mikey Delaney, Micheal Cahill, Aidan Prout, David Quinn, Sean Collier and Kane Conneely.
By Patrick Moloney and Eoin Quinn.
RULE CHANGE REMINDER
All schools are minded that 45’s can now be taken from the ground or from the hand in football. This rule was voted in at Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol A.G.M. in January 2014.
REGISTRATION FEE 2014 & 2015
The registration fee of €30 is payable on an annual basis by every school participating in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol activities including the equipment scheme. A handful of schools have yet to pay the fee for the 2014 year. The registration fee is a vital revenue source for the promotion of Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol activities. Registration runs from January to December of any given year and as such registration for 2015 should be returned in the New Year and not in the current 2014 year as this can cause confusion as to what year a school has registered for all.

As the football season begins schools are reminded of the importance of mouthguards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Both boys and girls playing in Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic football fixtures must wear mouthguards without exception at all times. It would be advised that schools would also use mouthguards when training to allow children to get used to using them and to follow best practice.
REPORTER OF THE WEEK
Schools are reminded and encouraged to send news and updates of their progress in the football championships for the coming season. Reports can be a great writing topic for the classroom and are an opportunity for children to see their work published for a wider audience. In the pre-season championship build-up children could be given the chance to tell about their own training regiments and tips for the coming championship. A Reporter of the Week will be chosen and their work included in the weekly report. Please ensure all reports are a single paragraph in Verdana 10 type. All submissions should be proof-read by the teacher before submission.
