“Minister Naughten to visit Thurles’ Premier Green Energy site,” McGrath

Independent TD Mattie McGrath has welcomed the decision by the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and the Environment Denis Naughten to visit the Premier Green Energy site in Thurles today. Deputy McGrath was speaking ahead of the Minister’s visit to the business that focuses on the development of sustainable and renewable environmental and waste management solutions:

“I am delighted that Minister Naughten has chosen to visit to Premier Green Energy today where he will see the excellent capacity we have here in Tipperary to become leaders in the field of bioenergy.

I also hope that it will be an opportunity for the Minister to deepen his familiarity with the challenges facing rural Ireland when it comes to trying to balancing green energy concerns with agricultural and farming concerns. It is vital that the Minister will then take some of those concerns back to the Cabinet.

Farmers and the agri sector in general face huge challenges with respect to European Union fines because of the failure to reach unreasonable emissions targets.

We need a far more balanced and reality based approach to these matters, one that does not penalise farmers, but works with them to move toward sustainable goals,” concluded Deputy McGrath.
