The Dome at Semple Stadium is sure to be the only destination for country music fans in the premier county and further afield, this St Patricks weekend when Mike Denver along with Philomena Begley, Ray Lynam and Mick Flavin will all take to the stage on Saturday March 19th in what promises to be a night not to be missed. The event which is part of Mike Denver’s 2016 national tour is sure to be a major attraction as it is the only date on which the tour will visit Tipperary.
The concert is being brought to Thurles as part of a major fundraising drive to raise funds for a new playground facility in nearby Templetuohy, which will have a huge emphasis in catering for children with special needs. Chairman of Templetuohy Community Playground Committee Jonathan Cullen, who is also well known for his involvement in the GAA, told the Tipperary Times that the new facility which is planned for the Mid Tipperary Village will be of huge benefit to not only the local community but also to families and organisations in neighbouring parishes. “As a parent of a child with special needs, I know only too well how hard it is to find suitable amenities with wheelchair accessible equipment and this is why we intend to make sure that the playground will cater for all needs and all requirements. Too many new developments are built without much thought and can result in excluding people both young and old. From day one it has always been my and the committees intention that the new development which will be constructed on the grounds of the Holy Family national school in Templetuohy, will be all inclusive and cater for all needs”.
In terms of the concert, Jonathan says that while the event is a huge undertaking and commitment he is hopeful that people will come out and support what is a very worthy cause while also being guaranteed of a great night entertainment. “It’s not too often you will find four of the top Irish country singers under the same roof on the same night”. “Myself and a number of committee members went to see Mike in concert a number of weeks ago and to say we had a great night would be an understatement”. Speaking ahead of the concert, Mike Denver has spoken of his excitement “I have never played in The Dome before so I am determined to give everyone a night they will remember for a long time”. The Portumna man went on to speak of his admiration for those involved with the new development in Templetuohy “It is great to see a group of young men and women coming together to do something meaningful and beneficial for their community and for that reason I really hope that they get the support they deserve”.
