Get in the ‘ring’ at the Thurles Harvest Festival! That’s the message from Tipperary Councillor Jim Ryan. The festival will take place on Bank Holiday Monday the 4th August and they are looking for bands, food and craft stalls.

Featuring this year will be the All Ireland Highland Games, which Jim says is a real coup for the festival and county.

“The Highland Games will bring visitors to the festival. People will get a real kick out it. We will have competitors from all over Ireland. It is  very different but exciting to watch. People will get a real kick out of it”, Jim told Tipperary Times Dave O’Grady.

“This is the third year of the festival and it has been so successful because of the wide variety on show. I go to a lot of festivals and see similar events every year and that is why we wanted to do things differently”, he said.

Last years event featured the Munster Tug of War Championship and this year an American wresting company will provide some ‘in ring’ action for spectators.

Thurles Special Olympics are the charity chosen this year to benefit from the days takings.

jim ryanJim was also recently elected to the Tipperary County Council and his main aim is to promote Tipperary as a tourist destination.

“These festivals are a great help in getting visitors to Tipperary. I think that we can do a lot more going forward in making events like the Thurles Harvest Festival grow more and more.”
