– Ireland Lakelands tourism brand currently being developed –

Tipperary TD, Jackie Cahill has said that he is pleased that Fáilte Ireland is currently undertaking a study to ascertain the potential for tourism growth in north Tipperary, and in particular, Ballina and Killaloe along with villages and towns bordering on Lough Derg all the way up to Portumna Bridge.

“In a recent question to the Junior Minister for Tourism, Patrick O’Donovan, I was informed that Fáilte Ireland are currently undertaking a Destination Development and Feasibility Study in its attempts to develop the ‘Ireland Lakelands’ tourism brand, and that Ballina and Killaoe are ‘very much included in the review’,” said the Fianna Fáil TD.

“This is wonderful news for everyone involved in the tourism industry in North Tipperary. Being part of the Ireland Lakelands tourism development will be a major boon for hotels, B&Bs, restaurants, and recreational activities on Lough Derg.”

“The study will look at the best mechanisms to unlock the potential of tourism destinations, such as North Tipperary, that lie between the very successful Wild Atlantic Way and Ireland’s Ancient East.”

“The Minister informed me that the first draft report will be available at the end of March 2017. We will all be eager to see this report, and see how Fáilte Ireland will seek to brand north Tipperary tourism hotspots such as Ballina, Dromineer Terryglass, and Garrykennedy”

“We have an exciting tourism product in North Tipperary, with excellent transport infrastructure, easy access to major international airport serving North America. I am confident that Fáilte Ireland will see all this, and more, and ensure that the region gets the support it needs to benefit from the growing visitor numbers to Ireland,” concluded Cahill.
