Hayes Welcomes New Members To The Board Of Bord Na nGon

Another Critically important step in implementing Indecon Report”

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Mr. Tom Hayes TD, yesterday announced a number of appointments to the Board of Bord na gCon.

The Minister has obtained approval for the appointment of two new Directors, Mr. Frank Nyhan and Mr. Pat Creed and the re-appointment of Mr. William O’Dwyer, Ms. Riona Heffernan and Mr. Martin Murphy.

Welcoming the appointments, Minister Hayes, said “The appointment of these individuals will ensure the smooth running and appropriate level of oversight in Bord na gCon in the immediate term. The individual skill sets they possess will bring a wealth of professional experience to the industry, combining new blood and experience and helping to steer this organisation on a steady and viable course. It is yet another critically important step in implementing the Indecon Report, providing a platform for the development of a world class greyhound racing industry.

Minister Hayes said the appointments were made following a competitive selection process run by the Public Appointments Service (PAS).

The appointments are as follows;

Frank Nyhan is a new appointment to the Board.  He is Principal in the firm of Frank Nyhan& Associates, Solicitors and is the State Solicitor for Cork City.

Pat Creed is also a new appointment to the Board.  He is managing director of Bank of Ireland Finance and has extensive risk management experience.

William O’Dwyer is a re-appointment to the Board.  He is an executive director of Thurles Greyhound Stadium and was previously joint secretary of Thurles Coursing Club for over 20 years.

Riona Heffernan is a re-appointment to the Board.  She is a chartered accountant with over 10 years experience and is acting Group Head of Finance at C&C Group PLC.

Martin Murphy is a re-appointment to the Board.  He is Chairman of Limerick Greyhound Stadium.
